We arrived in Kathmandu a dusty, busy city filled with extremely friendly people in November and we made Thamel our base and spent our first few days in this little district tailored to tourists needs.
in Thamel you find accommodation ranging from budget to quite luxuries and the same for restaurants. Thamel caters for all budgets and tastes.
The most popular sights being the Old Town with Durbar Square and a number of temples. Also Swoyambhunath Stupa is worth visiting. It is an interesting 40 min walk from Thamel on which you can experience a different side of Kathmandu. A number of steps leads up to the Stupa and you can enjoy a beautiful view over the city.
Before leaving Nepal we wanted to make sure we knew how to make one of our favorite dishes; Mo:Mos and we signed up for a great cooking class.
While there are nice things to do in Kathmandu itself you want to make sure you get out of there into the beautiful mountain ranges. A few days in Kathmandu is enough to get ready for your trek and get some sightseeing done.
